A Brief Introduction to
China Meteorological Administration Training
Centre
Subordinated to China Meteorological
Administration (CMA), China Meteorological Administration
Training Centre (CMATC) is derived from Beijing
Meteorological College, which was founded in 1955 and
changed into CMATC in early 1999. As a higher education &
training organization, and the national base for higher
continued education and on-the-job training in the
meteorological field, CMATC is an important part of the
basic meteorological operation systems. Since 2002, partial
functions of CMA Library, CMA International Cooperation
Service Centre, CMA Institute of Strategic Development &
Overall Planning have merged into CMATC. In April, 2003,
CMATC became Beijing Component of WMO Regional
Meteorological Training Centre Nanjing.
CMATC is mainly engaged in continued
education for the administrative staff at middle or higher
levels and the professionals with intermediate and senior
titles in China meteorological departments; training on new
and high technology; training of operational backbones and
instructors, compilation of meteorological training
materials and guidance to the training centers in the
provincial meteorological bureaus. Besides, CMATC also
undertakes the tasks about research on meteorological
information, scientific and technological consultation,
study of meteorological soft science. Meanwhile, it is
responsible for the meteorological foreign affairs services
of CMA, and the training of meteorological professionals and
managerial staff from Asia and other developing countries.
For years, CMATC has focused on the
development of meteorological cause of China, expanding
training domains, trying hard to improve the qualities of
training and building flagship training courses. Until now,
a system of meteorological continued training and on-the-job
training at different levels and of different types has been
formed. A distance education & training system with
meteorological characteristics has been formed. The
international meteorological training and international
influence have been strengthened and expanded. In recent
years, CMATC has reinforced the building of training
capability and facilities, making the training levels higher
and higher and course types more and more. By the end of
2006, the accumulative training classes totaled 400 with
more than 300,000 person\day, and distance education reached
90,000 person\times.
CMATC has gathered many middle-aged and young
academic backbones as well as a lot of scholars and experts,
who are rich in knowledge and rigorous in scientific
research. Some experts famous at home and abroad are invited
as part-time professors. CMATC has also established the
cooperative relations with some institutes, colleges and
universities. Now, CMATC has built up many standard
classrooms with advanced equipments such as the Integrated
Lecture Theatre, Training Classroom of Doppler Weather Radar,Training
Classroom of Weather Prediction & Forecast, which can
provide participants with excellent training and study
environment. Meanwhile, CMATC has the ability to guarantee
trainees’ daily-life services such as accommodation,
transportation, etc.. The library keeps over 200,000 books
and 1000 kinds of periodicals or more. The website of the
library can offer users quick and convenient access to their
needed information and references.
To become a national base for meteorological
education and training to be known as “Internationally
Advanced, Domestically First-Class”, CMATC will keep with
the pace of Chinese meteorological services by following the
Comments Made by the State Council of the People’s Republic
of China on Accelerated Development of the Chinese
Meteorological Service,
adopting the outcomes of Chinese meteorological development
strategy and enhancing the restructured meteorological
operational and technical systems, on the context of which
CMATC will build a new education and training operational
and technical framework, set up a resource sharing platform
for climate monitoring system and forecast prediction
training, meteorological distance education & training, in
addition to meteorological technological data and
information. Apart from those, CMATC will turn into a
training base for those administrative personnel as well as
the professionals engaged in climate monitoring system and
meteorological prediction, so as to support and guarantee
the sustainable development of China meteorological
services.
